Pariet 20 mg - Rabeprazole - Indication:
Pariet 20 mg is the second generation Proton pump inhibitor
It is an enteric-coated light yellow tablet , small in size, with rapid onset of action, containing sodium Rabeprazole.
Pariet 20 mg is used to treat the following diseases:
1- Gastric ulcers
2- Duodenal ulcer
3- Gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD)
4- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
5- H. pylori eradication
6- stomach sleeve procedures
7- Esophagitis
Pariet 20 mg is characterized by its high efficacy and speed, it has a fast onset of action which been activated within one hour of taking the dose , its efficacy dose not affected by food . It is the least interacting with other medications, and may be taken with Clopidogrel, warfarin.
Warnings and precautions :
Pariet 20 mg is recommended to be used with caution with the following medications :
Itraconazole, Gefitinip, as the absorption of these drugs requires a high acidity in the stomach which interferes with the action of Pariet 20 mg and the doses must be spaced apart.
Recommended dosage:
1. In cases of GERD
It is recommended to use one tablet daily in the morning and before food for four weeks
If symptoms persist, the doctor may advise the use of one tablet when needed
2. In cases of stomach ulcers
It is recommended to use one tablet per day in the morning before food for 6 weeks
The doctor may instruct the patient to continue the treatment for another 6 weeks if the symptoms persist .
3. In cases of duodenal ulcer
It is recommended to use one tablet a day in the morning before food for four continuous weeks
The doctor may instruct the patient to continue the treatment for another 4 weeks if the symptoms persist
4. In cases of ulcers caused by h. pylori infection
It is advised to be used with other medications (as per the doctor advise ) one tablet in the morning and one tablet in the evening for 7 days
5. In cases of Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
Treatment begins with three tablet daily and the doctor increases or decreases the number of daily dose based on the degree of improvement of the patient and his response to treatment
Warnings and precautions:
Rabeprazole is not recommended if there is any allergy to proton pump inhibitors
Rabeprazole is not recommended for use in patients with blood and liver diseases whose symptoms improve upon discontinuation of proton pump inhibitors.
Rabeprazole is not recommended for patients who use Atazanavir as a treatment for HIV
As a whole, PPI may reduce vitamin B12 absorption
Pregnancy and lactation:
There are no adequate studies, and the decision is referred to the doctor, according to the case based in risk benefits ratio
Patients with liver problems:
Please consult your doctor to assess the condition and determine the appropriate dose
