Mucinex (guaifenesin) is FDA approved expectorant. It helps loosen congestion in patient’s chest and throat, making it easier to cough out through his/her mouth. Mucinex is used to reduce chest congestion caused by the common cold, infections, or allergies. Mucinex duration of action is up to 12 hours.
